Day 30 – Cartagena’s Old town, Parque Cententario & Cafe Havana

Today we were up bright and early to cram in as much of Cartagena as we could. We were staying in an area called Getsemani which is a busy area with lots of nightlife but today we wanted to walk around the old town and see some of the buildings there. There’s a small park which you walk from one area to the other and on our way we kept our eyes peeled as apparently it’s home to a few sloths, monkeys and 2 iguanas!

One of the locals shouted over to us and we managed to watch a sloth cross from one tree to another which was pretty cool and a big iguana crossed the path infront of us.

We had a recommendation for a good breakfast spot so after all the commotion of the sloth we went straight there, this meant a nice walk through the old town. Fuelled by coffee and a good breakfast we continued walking round the old town

We absolutely loved Cartagena, the buildings were so colourful and there was such a buzz about the place from street vendors and tourists.

We strolled down to the waterfront and walked along the perimeter walls of the old town. We had seen a rooftop bar while walking and as it was so hot we decided to stop in to cool off with a couple of drinks and chilled there for a while as they had a DJ and the place was packed!

We were told the old town was full of nice shops so we had a look at them once we had finished our drinks and managed to get Gregor a nice linen shirt from one of them.

It was then back to the hostel to get ready and head out for sunset as we’d found a nice bar overlooking the water in the old town on our walk today so we went straight back there and it seemed that everyone else had also found the same bar that day as the queue to get in was massive. We made it in and had a drink served with 15mins to spare!!

We’d met a couple of people at the hostel the day before who joined us for a drink for sunset and after we grabbed some quick tacos on route to another rooftop bar in the getsemani area for more drinks.

For some reason we thought Colombian rum shots would be a great idea and from here the night escalated. We finished up at 3am salsa dancing in the famous Cafe Havana not wanting to leave and unfortunately getting told it was home time!

What a way to end our last night in Cartagena and Colombia!!

G&L xx
