Day 27 saw us say goodbye to our chilled hostel stay at Mama Tayrona and head to Minca.
Minca is a mountain town known best for its coffee farms but there is also lots of accommodation 30mins north of the town and even further into the mountains. We had booked a hostel for 1 night as it was all we could manage as it was very popular and also due to our last minute booking.
We got the local bus from Tayrona to Santa Marta and then swapped to the Minca bus and after that a 30min 4×4 to the mountains. What a journey it was!!! We’ve genuinely never seen roads as bad as the one we were on in the 4×4 – south Armagh didn’t have a look in.

We’d finally made it to the hostel in one piece and it was so worth it. The views, rooms, food, cocktails, pool were all 10/10 and we were so sad that we only had one night there. We just wanted to chill out and enjoy the pool after what had been a crazy few weeks on the go.

We read our books, sunbathed and I done a yoga class the next morning by the pool and we enjoyed every minute of doing very little! We’d been told that there was a slight chance we’d be able to extend by a night and when we asked the next morning after breakfast we were in luck!! It meant we’d have a night less at our next stop but we both agreed it was worth it. Everyone we’d met had basically done the same as us, arrived, realised how amazing it was and tired to extend their stay if they could.

We’d met some good craic people by the pool and so we had dinner and drinks with them in the evening, Gregor even had a go at the karaoke they had on one evening after dinner – Natasha Beddingfield watch out haha!!

All good things must come to an end and after a stunning few days in what can only be described as heaven, we had to leave and move on. We checked out and got the bus back to Santa Marta and headed for Cartagena.
We arrived in at 7pm and because we’d cut this place short by a day it was a quick change and back out for some dinner and to see what Cartagena was all about. We’d only been walking for 10mins and we’d both agreed we loved it already!! The place was buzzing, so many restaurants and bars, so on we went to try a few before the night was over!

G&L xx
