We spent the day visiting Tayrona National Park which was just to the North of where we were staying. This meant an early start and we were walking across to the park at about 7:45am.
Since we only had one day to do the hike through the park we decided to get a moto taxi from the main road entrance to the edge of the park boundary which would give us an extra hour or so in the main park. The moto taxi’s were entertaining as ever, no surprise I was last to the drop off point!
We trekked up over the main ridge that runs the length of the park parallel to the coast and then down to Playa Brava beach. The trek was pretty tough and very very steep in places. We were able to hear lots of wildlife but didn’t see much other than lots of Hummingbirds, spiders and ants/termites.
Maybe too many of the ants and termites for Laura’s liking!

When we got to the beach we went for a quick dip but this wasn’t really a beach you were encouraged to swim at because the rip tides have killed lots of people in recent years. Only being in enough to lie down and freshen up was enough for us! The beach was practically empty which also made the half hour we spent here really nice.

We then headed east along the coast through the rainforest to The Nudist (there were no nudists here) and to Cabo San Juan before continuing to the main park exit.
The Nudist was the nicest beach of the day with natural reef barriers which made swimming easy and some places to grab food and drinks.

In total we did 28km of walking and 825m of elevation. Pretty good for one day we thought. The park was amazing and we will definitely recommend to others to visit but we were a little gutted we hadn’t seen any other wildlife as there were lots of sightings of different types of monkeys and ant eaters the previous day.
We hopped on the local bus back to our hostel, freshened up and had a few cocktails in the bar area with some of the other people staying in the hostel while the sun set.
