Day 17 – Graffiti Tour & Local Food & Drinks Tours

After a good sleep to recharge we jumped up and booked on to a few free walking tours throughout the day. The first to go around the local graffiti displays and the second to try out some Colombian food and drinks!

With just two days to explore Bogota we were going to be on the go most of the time so before we headed off we chilled for a little while at the hostel which was really nice.

There were lots of people gathered to do the free walking tours to begin with but in the end it was only us doing the Graffiti one at that time so we had our very own guide. From the walk over to the meeting point we knew we wouldn’t have to go far to see lots of good Graffiti and the first street he took us to was no different!

We continued to wind our way through the La Candelaria area seeing different pieces along the way. A lot of them are done by two or three local artists who travel the world competing in competitions and doing one off bits of work.

We finished the tour in a small coffee shop that supports Mr.Garek one of the artists we had seen lots of today. This was also where we got to try out first cocoa tea.

Since we were going on the Local Food & Drinks tour we decided to skip lunch and strolled around the main centre of town to kill some time.

The sign was once covered in Graffiti on one side and plain in the other, the local artists then covered the plain one in Graffiti as a way of saying they prefer the city with Graffitti.

Throughout the afternoon we tried a bunch of different things, a few better than others. Fruits, juices, Empanadas, Capybara, Coffee and of course the Colombian tradition of hot chocolate and cheese.

Laura’s favourite by a country mile was the Empanadas, which I liked as well but the Capybara was pretty decent. Although it’s a craze over here we will not be bringing the hot chocolate and cheese combo back home with us!

Just like that we’d finished off our first day in Bogota, we headed to grab some food and had a few drinks in a nice wee bar not far from the Hostel we were staying in. There wasn’t going to be any partying again just yet!
